Natural Beauty
Here are a few tips that will make it easier to care for your hardwood floor. For more information, please download the PDF version of our Warranty, Installation, Maintenance brochure from this site.
- To preserve the appearance and to prevent excessive expansion or shrinkage of your hardwood floor, it is important to maintain the relative humidity level for your area (between 45% and 55% approximately) throughout the year.
- Regularly vacuum the floor to prevent sand or abrasive dust from accumulating and scratching the finish.
- It is imperative that flooring be left to acclimate to the house temperature for a minimum of 48 hours at the recommended relative humidity level (between 45% and 55%), and at a temperature of 20 degrees Celsius.
- Remember that wood and water do not mix! Never wash your Preverco floor with water, and do not leave water or any other liquid to dry on your hardwood floor. Wipe up spots and spills immediately.
- Use floor protection (felt pads) under all furniture and chair legs to allow their movement and prevent scratching the floor. Protect your floor when moving heavy pieces of furniture. Carry them or place them on a rug, wrong side up, and slide the rug.
- Avoid wearing high heels on your hardwood floor. Do not wear shoes that are covered in dirt, gravel or abrasive dust.
- Please make sure that the claws of your pet are trimmed because they could damage the finish. Limit playtime with your pet to rooms that are not covered in hardwood. Put a small carpet or placemat under your pet’s water or food bowl.
- For tenacious stains, you can use a solution of water and vinegar, solvent or lighter fluid, but be sure to use a very small quantity and limit use to the soiled area. Do not use a vinegar-based solution for the regular care of your floors. Its acidity will damage the finish of your floor and result in the yellowing of your floor. To remove sticky residues from your floor, you can use a bag of ice cubes or lighter fluid.
- Repair kits or touch-up pencils can be useful in repairing minor marks on your floor. Should an incident leave your prefinished hardwood floor damaged, please remember that the affected floorboards can be replaced easily. Contact your local authorized distributor who will gladly advise you on repairs of this nature.
- Since hardwood is a natural product, your hardwood floor will continue to shrink and expand depending on the season and humidity/heating conditions. During the winter (heating season), a humidifier is often required to minimize shrinkage due to low humidity. Wood stoves and electric heat tend to create very dry conditions. Gaps between floorboards may develop despite your best efforts. During the summer (non-heating season), the air is more humid, and proper humidity levels can be maintained by using an air conditioner, dehumidifier, and ventilation, or by turning on your heating system periodically during the summer months.

35-year exceptional warranty
The purpose of this section is to list important points related to our warranty. We suggest you download the PDF version of our brochure Warranty, Installation, Maintenance in order to obtain all pertinent information.
1. If you have any doubts concerning the quality of the merchandise, do not install the floor.
The installer and/or the owner assume final inspection responsibility for product quality. All flooring should be inspected prior to installation. Carefully examine flooring for color, grade, finish, and general quality before installing it.
2. Hardwood is a product of nature.
Preverco Inc. controls all the steps involved in the production of its prefinished hardwood floors from kiln drying to finishing. As hardwood is a product of nature, it is not perfect. Industry standards allow a tolerance in quality variation not exceeding 5% of the total quantity purchased. Preverco Inc. will replace any material in excess of this 5% tolerance (excluding labor costs and shipping fees).
3. Preverco now accepts O.S.B. sub floors
Make sure to download the PDF of our new Warranty, Installation, and Maintenance brochure available on this site to know more about the new instructions and guidelines related to the installation of hardwood floors over O.S.B. sub floors.
4. Your presence during installation is crucial.
If you decide to hire an installer who will install your hardwood floor without your supervision, it is your responsibility to ensure the good judgment of the installer. The installer should be selective when assessing the quality of the wood and grading, and when arranging floorboards according to the natural color variations of the species selected. If you are present during the installation of your floor, you can ask your installer to place boards in areas that are less visible and according to your taste. Preverco Inc. cannot be held responsible for any unpleasant surprise resulting from the installer’s lack of judgment.
5. Certain conditions apply to make your warranty valid.
The flooring must have been purchased through an authorized distributor. You must be the initial owner of the floor and have a copy of your proof of purchase. When dealing with the ¾ inch solid hardwood, the floor must not have been installed in a basement, directly on a concrete floor, or in a room with a radiant heating system. All items commonly known as rustic/tavern, second quality, imperfect or non-standard are not covered by the warranty. These types of products are sold “as is.” Installation and maintenance recommendations must have been followed. Please consult our new brochure for the conditions that apply to your warranty.
6. You must send a written claim notice in order to put your warranty to use.
Send a claim notice to Preverco Inc. within 30 years following the purchase, with a copy of the original receipt. When a claim is received, Preverco Inc. will inspect the product within 30 days. During this period any attempt to repair, replace or refinish the floor will void the warranty.
